In celebration of one of our most favorite holidays ever, we’ll be launching a new Halloween book every week until the spookiest day of the year. Our first book titled “Sugar Skulls” is a beautiful collection of hand drawn artwork by our very talented featured artist Jennifer Kau of Aloha Tattoo and Arts. We recently had a chance to catch up with Jennifer and here’s what she had to say.

“I grew up in Boise, Idaho. By the time Halloween rolled around in Idaho the temperature got pretty low. My mother hand made some of the coolest Halloween costumes ever, but the challenge was always how to make a costume that looked good over snow pants. My favorite costume she made was a genius contraption made out of black tube socks and fishing line. By raising my arms I lifted 6 stuffed legs and was transformed into a well insulated black spider. Halloween, for me, will always be about making amazing costumes, hand made decorations, and spending time with creative family members.

I have always loved the color schemes of sugar skulls and day of the dead. It fits perfectly into American Halloween culture. Sugar skulls are very popular in today’s tattoo culture. As a tattoo artist, I love coming up with new sugar skull designs and themes. When I decided to create a book for Halloween, sugar skulls seemed to be the funniest choice.

I hope everyone loves coloring these sugar skulls. Bold, bright, and beautiful. ”
