Pigment 1.3 – New Brushes, Color Palettes, Updated UI and More!
We’ve received a ton of feedback from our users and are happy to announce our biggest update to Pigment to date, which includes new brushes, more color palettes, an improved user interface, eyedropper tool, and more. Let’s start with brushes.
New Brush Menu
We’ve made a lot of changes to the brush menu as you can see. We’ve completely redesigned the menu and made it easier to tell how each brush stroke will look. Also, you’ll notice that there are three buttons at the bottom of the menu under the heading “Coloring Inside the Lines”. That’s because we’ve added a new “Automatic” selection mode that lets you color without having to tap on the area you want to color! Automatic selection is a huge time-saver when you’re coloring away.
Also, you’ll find “Freehand” mode super useful when you want to color outside the lines or autograph your work. “Advanced” selection mode is what Pigment offered before with one big difference – we’ve included multi-select! Just tap and hold to activate the feature. A lot of people have been asking for this, and now you can select a bunch of areas and color them all in at once. It’s great for repeating colors and gradients.
We admit it, we screwed up. Not having an eraser was an oversight on our part, but now Pigment has a proper eraser tool available from the editing window. Until now, you had to rely on the undo or the paint bucket fill tool, but now you can erase to your heart’s content.
We’re introducing three of the first Premium Brushes that will be available to our Premium Access subscribers. We’ve carefully adjusted each of these brushes to give you beautiful, realistic colors. They’ll bring new life to your favorite pieces of work. The new brushes are:

New Color Palette Menu
We’ve also made major improvements to the color palette menu. You’ll notice that we’ve added a bottom section with a “Recent Colors” palette and a color sampling (eyedropper) tool. You’ll also find 3 new color palettes and 7 additional premium color palettes. With all these palettes and new coloring tools, Pigment will be able to satisfy all your coloring needs.
Recent Colors and Color Sampling (Eyedropper Tool)
One of the most requested features was a way to find a color you’ve already used. We explored quite a few ways of doing this but came to the conclusion that having both a “Recent Colors” palette and a color sampling (eyedropper) tool was the way to go. So now, you can easily pick any color you’ve recently worked with and if there is a specific color anywhere on the screen, you can choose it with couple of taps.
