Why are digital planners awesome? Great question.

OK, the first thing I should point out is that paper planners are fun, and I think they work really well for some people. But, digital planners provide a lot – like, a lot – of perks that paper planners don’t. I like to call them Digital Perks, but you might call them: “All the things I didn’t know I needed.” Or something.

I’ve made a list of what makes digital planning fabulous, and I’m going to use the Zinnia planning app as an example of my points because it’s uniquely good at a variety of features that not every app possesses.

OK, so what makes a digital planner better than paper planning? Honestly there are a lot of reasons, so I’m just going to talk about a few of our favorites.

Why Digital Planning is Better

1. It’s not just a planner – it can be a journal,  a storyboard, a scrapbook, a photo collection, and so much more.  If you buy a physical planner, you’re stuck with the format that the printer created. With Zinnia, you can create your own spreads, or adjust premade ones.
2. A paper planner is constrained by physical properties – it can’t suddenly get longer if you run out of space. With Zinnia, you can add pages and journals as needed.
3. If you make a mistake, you can click the undo button instead of dealing with eraser marks and crumpled paper. If you’re tired of a journal, you can delete it instead of shredding or recycling (or burning?) it.
4. Digital journaling is a huge space saver. It’s all in one simple device – you don’t need to lug around pens, pencils and erasers. Which reminds me – no more expensive trips to the craft store.
5. The Apple pencil feels like magic. Writing on a screen, tapping objects to move or resize, it’s just…fun. And so flexible – colors can change with a tap, and nothing is ever stuck in one spot — if you don’t like where you put it, move it without dealing with messy glue.
6. Importing photos is awesome. Snap a digital pic, or grab one from your library (most of our photos are digital now anyways), and easily import it and add a frame. No need to travel or pay for printing.

OK, those are some of the reasons digital planning is awesome. Really, so much of our work and social lives are online, it makes sense to plan for them digitally as well.
